Department of English:
The Department of English at Government General Degree College, Kharagpur-II has been established with the primary aim of imparting the knowledge of English language and literature among the rural community of Kharagpur and its surrounding areas. It is an undeniable fact that in this present era of globalization, the knowledge of English is essential in order to remain connected with the outside world. The department is fortunate to get the service of eminent scholars as faculty members who strive to provide academic assistance and ensure a successful future for their students. The thrust areas of teaching in this department range from Old English British Literature to Post-Modern Literature, American and New Literatures, Post-colonial Literature, Indian Literature in English, Popular Literature, Women’s Writing and Dalit Literature. The department frequently organizes special lectures by reputed scholars and regularly encourages its students to participate in co-curricular activities. The faculty members take special care to make the teaching process interesting by taking the help of multimedia facilities. This is particularly essential as a considerable number of students admitted in this department are first generation learners without any prior background in higher education.
